We are implementing an Email Spam Protection enhancement that will help to significantly reduce the amount of spam you see coming in to your mailbox. This can increase the spam protection by 80% or more. The implementation of this enhancement will create a ONE TIME delay to the delivery of emails for each sender that sends you an email. This delay can vary from 10 minutes to 4 or 5 hours.
Here is a brief description of how this is accomplished. Below is a graphic representation of the process.
This system stops emails that are sent from email servers that send out Spam but don't follow the normal rules of Email Server behaviour. Such servers do not work with the other servers on the Internet to ensure the smooth delivery of mail by communicating about the status of emails they are handling.
The server stops these emails by slightly delaying all emails the first time they are received by our server from a new sender who can be identified by a unique email address coming from a unique server address. Our server will ask the sending server to resend the email.
Depending on the server they are coming from this can cause a one time delay of anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 or 5 hours. Emails that are coming from servers that don't follow the rules will not be resent and will be gone from our server.
Emails from normal servers will come right through the server the second time with no delay and then be processed by the normal mail handling systems.
